Dear Sir,

In my absence from home yesterday, Wm Thomas, the person advertizing in the Salisbury Paper, called to answer my Enquiries – He is a single man – aged 40 – at present living as Gardener & Bailiff with the Revd J. S. Savage, Southbroom House, Nr Devizes – He lived previously with the Bishop of Worcester, at Hartlebury Castle, Worcester <1> – and before that, with Sir Robt Brownrigg <2> – He says that his reason for wishing to leave his present situation, is that it is on a More limited Scale than he has been accustomed to – but that Mr Savage will retain him till he gets another place – His terms are £40 pr Ann: if in the House or £60 – out – a permanent situation however seems to be a greater object with him than high wages –

Would you like me to have any communication with Mr Savage about him previous to advertizing? I annex a sketch of an advertisement for your perusal –

I remain dear Sir
Your obliged & Obed Servant

West Awdry

Chippenham <3>
