Awdry abt Collen <1>

3 Feby /44

I hve already said, & I repeat, that if Mr C. likes to reduce the price of his ports & copies, - from 21/ to 10/ 6 he shall be at libty to do so, on giving me notice - I wrote a clause to this effect & I intended this clause to stand in part of ye memdm as well as the other wch I added in my last letter. - Both together With respect to this latter one I adhere to my own words phrase & cannot accept that proposed by Mr Haslam,<2>to at all to engage to communicate to Mr Collen ye terms of ye agreemts wch I may make with other parties - That I cannot believe that C has any serious idea of ever lowering ye his price below 10/ 6 each portrait, & ∴ it appears to me that he is wasting time in now stipulating with respect to that contingency.

to Awdry about Henry Collen

3 February 1844

I have already said, and I repeat, that if Mr Collen likes to reduce the price of his portraits and copies, - from 21 shillings to 10 shillings 6 pence he shall be at liberty to do so, on giving me notice -I wrote a clause to this effect and I intended this clause to stand in part of the memorandum as well as the other which I added in my last letter. - Both together With respect to this latter one I adhere to my own words phrase and cannot accept that proposed by Mr Haslam, as it is not at all my intention to at all to engage to communicate to Mr Collen the terms of the agreements which I mahe make with other parties - That I cannot believe that Collen has any serious idea of ever lowering the his price below 10 shillings /6 pence each portrait, and therefore it appears to me that he is wasting time in now stipulating with respect to that contingency.
