Chippenham
3 May 1844
Dear Sir,
I have had another visit from Mr Saunders <1> to solicit your support to the proposed Branch Railway to Frome & Salisbury. The Directors are very anxious to have you on their provisional Committee and wish to wait upon you with their Plans, according to which the Line would run at the back of Inwood, <2> and I should think at a sufficient distance from the Abbey to secure you from annoyance, If you would like to see Mr Saunders and will appoint any day convenient to yourself I would accompany him to the Abbey –
I remain Dear SirYour obliged Servant
West Awdry.
