Dear Sir,

I have sent a Copy of your note, so far as it relates to him, to Mr Collen <1>. I understood you certainly would not want any hay made this Year and therefore sold the Crop at the Abbey to Croker <2> a few days ago finding that it was daily growing less – I think you will find you have plenty of old Hay for your own use. I am afraid this continued drought will be attended with very serious consequences.

I am Dear Sir Your Obliged Servt
West Awdry.

Chippenham <3>
14 June 1844.

Notes:

1. Henry Collen (1800–1879), miniature painter, calotypist & spiritualist, London.

2. A tenant of Lacock.

3. Chippenham, Wiltshire: largest town near Lacock, 3 miles N.
