Chippenham <1>
April 6th 1838
Dear Sir /
Nicholas Crocker called on me after you left Lacock & gave me all the Particulars in his power respecting the burning of the Furze –
From the information wch he had then been able to collect, there did not appear sufficient evidence to authorize our taking any one into Custody – but I desired him to continue his enquiries & report if any thing further should transpire – Wright the Police Man, appears very anxious to find out the offenders & I have desired him to communicate any information wch he may be able to obtain – to my Son <2> – during my absence in London next Week – & if necessary, he will apply for a Summons & bring the Parties before the Magistrates at the Corsham meeting – I am so satisfied with the Vigilance of Wright, that I have no doubt of his success – if any Clue is to be found – When I write to St Leonards to mention the Remittance after the Audit, I will take care to let you know if any thing has been found out –
I am Dear Sir
