Dear Babbage
I have sent you per Coach Bristol Mail today an album containing 35 photographs for the grand duke of Tuscany, <1> and also a packet for Professor Amici at the réunion at Turin. <2>
Pray let me hear by a line of their safe arrival at your house.
I wish you a very pleasant and prosperous journey over the Alps, and wish that circumstances admitted of my taking a similar flight.
Yours most truly
H. F. Talbot
Notes:
1. These photographs intended for Leopold II, Duke of Tuscany (1797–1870), may never have reached their destination [see Doc. No: 04394, Doc. No: 04199]. They have not been located.
2. The images sent to Prof Giovanni Battista Amici (1786–1868), Italian optician & man of science, are now in the Biblioteca Estanse, Modena [see Doc. No: 04117]. In 1839, Pisa hosted the first Congress of Italian Scientists. WHFT had intended to send specimens of photogenic drawing in time for that conference, but was delayed until this, the second Congress of 1840, in Turin [see Doc. No: 03920, Doc. No: 04008].
