My Dear Sir

Many thanks for the specimen of Tricyrtis. The plant is now in flower here. I enclose a specimen fr the garden. It belongs to the natural order Melanthaceć the Colchicum[?] family.

The election of the Professor of Music is to take place on 1st November. There is a rumour that Hullah <1> is the chosen. This has caused some stir among the musical folks here. Sir David Brewster <2> seems to be sadly annoyed at the prospect of Hullah getting the office. Professor Dunnett is also opposed to him. Your friend <3> seems to occupy a high place in the opinion of those who profess to know the theory of Music.

I am Yours truly
J. H. Balfour
