Brighton
8 Novr 1827.
Dear Sir. /
I shall have great pleasure in knowing the Gentleman whom you recommend <1> as far as seeing that he has a fair hearing. I do not interfere otherwise from my utter incapacity of judging, & from an anxious wish that the new University should not begin with the jobbing view imputed to older establishments. I presume you have written to the Council generally, as I believe we call ourselves, for I am quite sure that your testimony as to the pretention of a Professor of Mathematics will go much farther than that of ten such ignorant councillors as I am. –
We return to the Grange the end of this month and Mrs Baring <2> desires me to say that should you be amiable enough to make us a visit at any time in December or January we shall be delighted to see you,
I am My Dear Sir ever Yours Sincerely
Alexr Baring
