My Dear Sir,
In consequence of finding that Mr P. Scrope <2> will be engaged at the time that I would have been able to pay my visit at Castlecombe, <3> and having caught an exceedingly bad cold which unfits me for every thing, I am obliged to returned [sic] to Scotland as soon as I can; and regret much that I am thus deprived of the pleasure which I anticipated of again finding myself under your hospitable roof. <4> With kindest regards to all at Lacock Abbey
