My dear Sir,
I am sorry I had not the pleasure of seeing you at Lacock: & then have thank’d you for the gratification I, Mrs Britton & some friends, derived in looking over the truly comfortable state you have made the interior of the Abbey for habitation. We were also pleased with the secure state in which the old parts of the building are kept.
I think you would have been pleased to have met many of the party, both Ladies & Gentlemen, who so fully enjoyed their visit to Lacock & Bowood on the 12th of Sep/55
The present state of photogenic Art – with the numerous & – truly interesting Portraits it has produced of Antiquities, art, & nature cannot fail in to afford ing you much pleasure – I have some exquisite specimens of Cathedrals – Sculpture Portraiture &c
In my Auto Biography, which is now drawing to a close, I shall allude to Lacock
I have several sketches of the buildg of the parish church & two beautiful drawgs of the Kitchen & the chapel, which probably you might like to possess, & which I shall be glad to show you when next in Town –
Yrs very truly
J Britton
