Je ne sais pas encore quand & comment il faudra envoyer les photographies destinées pour l’Exposition Universelle de Paris, Mais hier soir à la Société photographique on a parlé d’un agent qui se chargera de tout moyennant une contribution fort moderée.

Si vous m’envoyez votre caisse (ici) je me ferai un plaisir de l’ajouter à ce que j’aurai a [sic] envoyer moi-même & vous n’aurez plus à vous en occuper, jusqu’après le renvoi de vos spécimens. Je vous dirai ce que vous aurez à payer.

Je vous ai adressé le 3. ou 4. c^t à Lacock Abbey le numéro de l’Art journal pour Janvier, qui contient page 4. un article que j’ai écrit sur les travaux de M. Niépce de St. Victor concernant la reproduction photographique des Couleurs Naturelles, & où j’ai eu à retracer plusieurs faits historiques sur la découverte de la Photographie.^<1> Je devais donc parler de vous & je l’ai fait de mon mieux pour vous rendre les honneurs qui vous sont dûs.

Depuis l’association Britannique à Nottingham, je me suis trouvé entrainé dans une vive polémique au Sujet de mon idée d’égaliser la definition des divers plans d’une figure en faisant mouvoir le foyer pendant l’exposition.^<2> Avez-vous suivi cette discussion d’après le compte qui en a été rendu par les journaux photograph, & autres publications? Je vous ai envoyé mon mémoire & le journal photographiq. je crois. Si vous ne le recevez pas réguliérement, je vous enverrai les derniers N^os qui vous intéresseront, j’en Suis Sur, celui qui rendra compte de la Séance d’hier soir, surtout meritera toute votre attention.

My dear Sir,

I do not yet know when & how the photographs for the Paris World Exhibition must be sent, but there was talk of an agent at the Photographic Society last night who will take care of all of the arrangements for a very moderate fee.

If you send me your box (here), it will be a pleasure to add it to what I will have to send myself, & you will no longer have to concern yourself with it until after your specimens have been returned. I will tell you what it will cost you.

On the 3^rd or 4^th of this month, I sent the January issue of the Art Journal to you at Lacock Abbey. On page 4, it contains an article which I have written about the work of Mr Niépce de St. Victor on the photographic reproduction of Natural Colours, & in which I had to recount various historical facts about the discovery of Photography. Consequently, I had to talk about you & I did my best to pay you the tribute which you deserve.

Since the British Association at Nottingham, I have been dragged into a fierce debate about my idea to equalize the definition of various aspects of a figure by changing the focus during the exposure. Have you followed this discussion in the accounts which appeared in photographic journals and other publications? I believe that I have sent you my paper and the photographic journal. If you do not receive it regularly, I will send you the last few issues, which I am sure will interest you. In particular, the issue with a report of last night’s meeting is worthy of your attention.
