Dear Sir
As the enquiries about the larger Photoglyph which was promised to the readers of the “News” are becoming frequent Messrs Petter & Galpin think that it would not be advisable to delay much further its issue. You remember that of the six proofs of the large view you sent me one was a very excellent one but was on copper and consequently was not included in the calculations which we made. Since then I have been in communication with Mr Brooker and he has shown me the copper plate which has been steel faced and thus made equal to a steel one. We have consequently made fresh enquiries and got careful estimates from him and as he will undertake to print off the requisite number from that one plate, all equal in goodness to the specimen proof if time be allowed we have considered it advisable to decide upon issuing that photoglyph instead of delaying much longer. I now write therefore to obtain your permission to use the plate for this purpose and as we are willing to allow Mr Brooker as much time as he may require to turn out all excellent pictures, and shall not mention the proposed issue in the “News” until the greater number are completed. I hope that you will kindly allow the printing of them to be commenced at once as a month or two will doubtless be required before they are completed
Believe me very truly yours
William Crookes.
