Dear Sir

It must have been a misunderstanding on the part of Mr Brooker as to the number of prints we required that led him to write to the effect that he was waiting for another plate. I believe the number already printed will nearly supply the immediate demand, but he had instructions yesterday from Messrs P & G to proceed with the remainder at his leisure – so long as they were delivered in a week or so. The whole number yet printed are in Messrs P & G’s hands now, and they are now getting them properly done round rollers so that they may not be injured by transmission through the post. I am preparing now to start for a fortnights trip to Cumberland & Westmoreland and so shall not be at the office again till the issue is over. In order however to avoid any chance of error I have written a short announcement in the form of a Leader for the next number of the Photo: News and have given instructions to Messrs P & G. to forward a proof to you. May I beg that you will look over it and kindly correct or alter it as you think fit and return it to Belle Sauvage Yard to Messrs Petter & Galpin. Should you wish to communicate with me on the subject my address will be on Sunday morning

Letters sent to the above addresses on the previous evening will reach me quite safely. At any other time a letter sent to 20 Mornington Road will be forwarded at once.

As soon as I return I will commence with the reduced photographs of letterpress. Any instructions which you may send to the office on the proof will be attended to properly, as I have left ample instructions

Believe me truly yours
William Crookes.
