Dear Sir,
Before leaving for Russia I requested the late Mr. Robert Howlett to send you an eight inch transparent copy of one of my most successful moons. I learnt the other day from his late partner Mr. Downes that several orders of a similar kind were unexecuted, thus accounting for your not having received the photograph in accordance with my wishes.
But this post I forward two small copies of my moons which have been toned with gold-solution in order to render them better adapted for your process; they will possibly serve the purpose of preliminary experiment and if not too small in size will give I think a satisfactory result - but I will immediately have others taken off & sent to you when you inform me of your wishes.
If it would be possible to obtain plates that would print copies of the size of the original negative 1in.1 in diameter by your process I would like to use the prints in our diary which sells to the extent of about 25000 annually. If the reproduction by your process would answer on so small a scale several plates might be made to make the requisite number of prints.
I am Yours Very truly
