My dear Henry,
You will no doubt have heard before this reaches you the sad news from Melbury, but Sophy who knows how much attached you were to dear Uncle William begged me to write you a line – he died on Tuesday last, of bronchitis & congestion of the lungs – he had been less well for more than a fortnight, but not alarmingly so, & no danger was immediately apprehended, & he only kept his bed one day before his death –
Sophy is very sensible & good, & bears up better than I could have expected – perhaps you may have heard all these details already from Harriot, but Sophy was very anxious to write to you
Believe me
