Dear Sir
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated yesterday The kind of letter which you propose that I should sign appears to me perfectly reasonable & I repent I will sign it with the greatest pleasure – but I think some friend of yours had better draw it up. You can then suggest what you please & some one more conversant with the subject of photography than I am could allude in fitting, but not in vague, terms to the merit of your discovery. If you will transmit to me such a letter I will return it with my signature.
Your exception about portraits appears to be quite just & fair – it will be for you to judge whether that point should be alluded to in the letter addressed to you or in your answer – perhaps better in the answer.
I remain, Dear Sir,
Yours very faithfully
