Mount Edgcumbe <1>
Devonport.
Friday 1st Aug

Dear Uncle Henry

Very many thanks for your kind recollection of me and for your invitation which I received this morning

I really very much regret that I cannot come now. I must stay here over tomorrow – and am under promise to be at Cowes on Monday – but as I am sure to be coming your way early in September, I will write and propose myself then in the hopes that it may be an equally convenient time for you to have me.

I am so glad to hear that some of the Australian seeds deigned to show themselves productive –

With kind love to all –

Believe me yr affte nephew
C E Edgcumbe
