Dimanche Soir
Dover.

Mon très-cher-Frère;

Adieu, mon cher petit Henri,
Caroline Augusta Feilding.

Dover.
Sunday Evening

My very–dear–Brother,

We left London yesterday morning, and we spent the night in Sittingbourn; we arrived here today at one o’clock; After lunch, dearest Papa took us to see the castle, the fortifications, and Queen Elizabeth’s pocket pistol: dear Mama was tired, she did not come with us.

Tomorrow we will set sail for that “beautiful land, France, to which you always send a kiss, as did Julius Caesar, fourteen centuries before you.”

I can barely wait for the time when we will be reunited in Paris, I hope we will take many walks together to botanise; so I will take advantage of your lessons as much as possible. We will also play at chicken; and I would like to master this game in order to become more worthy of your great talent. I refuse to suffer being eclipsed yet again by Horatie at Tivoli. –

When you pass through London on your way to joining us, please do me the favour of stopping off at Sackville street to see Nanny; try to console her about our absence, tell her that we will always love her, and be kind enough to take care of her commissions for us.

Farewell, my dear little Henri,
I wish you great success at Cambridge and am, hoping that you will win the medal,
your affectionate Sister
Caroline Augusta Fielding
