My dear Henry

I do not like to speak to Lord Mt E. <1> any more about the Rent, as that sort of thing teazes him when he is not quite well, & particularly as he agreed at once to pay £200 (more than half our share of the rent,) which it is unusual to give beforehand – & as I told you we are always short of money, he will probably be obliged to borrow & pay interest for the loan. But without mentioning the subject any more to him, I will pay the £36..5..0 over – only I do not want to have anything whatever to do with Mrs Marsh <2> or Lady Sligo <3> – That is entirely your affair – We take the house from you; therefore as soon as you let me know who is your Banker, Drummonds’ <4> shall pay into his hands £200, & Stilwell <5> £36 – 5 – 0 – & you must make it over in your own name to Mrs Marsh –

Horatia <6> has not yet written to Mr Brown, <7> as she thought he wd certainly let her know in good time before the lease was disposed of – & it did not happen to be convenient to her to remove her books now, supposing he was to take her at her word. It is blowing a downright gale today, & people can hardly make their way along in some places where there are eddies.

Yr affte Sister

Caroline
