My dear Henry
I hear you are likely to be going North very soon – Have I any hopes of seeing you here? I came up for the Drawingroom yesterday, & intend staying 10 or 12 days longer. I hope you will come & see me. Ernestine <1> only is here with me. I hear your future Gendre <2> is to be in Town today for 2 days – but I fear he is too shy to give me an opportunity of making his acquaintance.
I don’t think I [illegible deletion] wrote you word that I watched Saturn the day you told me – & with my own spyglass could distinctly see his shape, thus: [illustration] tho’ I cd not of course distinguish his ring separately. I looked till I saw him vanish suddenly behind the unlit side of the moon – which was perfectly visible – as the evening was splendidly clear.
Yrs affte
Caroline
