Mount Edgcumbe <1>
Tuesday June 25th 1872
My dear Henry
I am so sorry the little flower dropt out. I think it is out of bloom now – but it was I think one petal, like a trumpet, of a red colour.
I send you however a much prettier specimen today – which I never saw anywhere before. It is an Arbutilon – but very different to the common one. I saw it accidentally in an obscure place among some shrubs near the English Gardens – by no means a particularly favorable spot – & yet it seemed very flourishing. It had grown from seed.
I have not been at Mt E. in June for so many years, that no wonder I never saw the blossom before.
You had better send those two plants at once – They will be well taken care of if I am gone. I suppose they shd be directed to the Manor office. Ernestine <2> will tell you – Could you send me a few more Anemone Apennina by the same opportunity?
