Biberach

Monday Septr 16th

My dear Henry

I am just going to bed, having had a long day’s journey from Heidenheim, & intending to set out again tomorrow morning at 7. It is the hope of still meeting you, that has induced us to use such unusual exertions, for we have travelled late & early, & only stopped one day, (at Nürnberg,) since we left Liebenstein, in order to reach Varese before you leave it. We expect to be there the 23rd it would be too disappointing not to find you after all our hurry – Biberach is too <sic> stages south of Ulm, & we have hitherto been remarkably exact in our calculations – so I hope to arrive the day I have named –

Addio fratello mio caro – <1>
Yr very affte Sister

Caroline –

I have sent a copy of this to Lugano, in case you shd not be at Varese –
