My Dear Henry

I enclose a note from Caroline, <1> & likewise a direction card Mr Linnell <2> gave me the day he called here. I think you should consider it as good for your fame when an eminent Artist is so enthusiastic about your discovery. It is bad policy to throw cold water on those who can make you célèbre <3> & carry your renommée <4> over the world, when you see what apathy & coldness and stupidity & slowness of comprehension exist in your own Country – I have time for no more

Notes:

1. Caroline Augusta Edgcumbe, née Feilding, Lady Mt Edgcumbe (1808–1881); WHFT’s half-sister.

2. Probably John Linnell, landscape and portrait painter. [See Doc. No: 05174].

3. Fame.

4. Renown.
