It is seldom one hears of so chequered a lot as that of Mr Bridges. <1> It is the romance of real life –
No prepayment is requisite for letters to Malta <2> and consequently I did not prepay yours – Nor is it necessary to write

on them, for they always go that way unless the contrary is expressly desired.
