My Dear Horatia
The papers today have long accounts of the extraordinary occurrence at Forlimpopoli, <1> so well described in Your letter of the 3d. Such a Melodrama was never before acted on any stage! It is only in Italy that such things are possible, and I think that if Mrs Radcliffe <2> had introduced this adventure into her romance of “the Italian”, it would have been scouted as too improbable.
