Caro Enrico

Dear Henry

I am very annoyed with you, because you haven’t taken any notice of the letter that I wrote to you on 12 December in one of Mama’s. You have not even replied to the questions that I put to you in it. Our Hyacinths from Constantinople are marvellous, mine is in bud and Caroline’s in flower. Your orchid has not got much further forward. The tulips have not grown at all. We were at the Français lately to see M Arnaud’s Germanicus, it’s a very interesting tragedy, which was played only once, 7 years ago, and never since because it was forbidden, until this winter. Talma played Germanicus and Mlle Duchesnois Agrippina. – We have received several pretty New Year’s gifts which I shall let you see when you come back. Give our love to our young cousins.

Goodbye, dear Henry, I embrace you with all my heart, and wish you a good and happy year. –
your sister
Horatia
