March 22nd

Sir

the Seedlings You ordered me to buy and form a nursery with – I cannot get them all I have got the hollys Occidental Plane and Syringa from Stroud <1>, the others neither Heale <2> nor Stroud grows but Stroud took the order and said he would get all the remainder. I have been expecting them daily for this month back – the last account I received from him was that the Barge in which the Seedlings were coming from London in has been arrested on her Passage but that still he expected them very soon. I told him that it was now far advanced in the Season, & if they were lying on board for a considerable time they would not be worth planting &c &c

I send you the names of the remainder, in case you might think proper to buy them in London & bring them by the carriage as they would be but light &c &c
