Lacock Abbey

Feby 26th

Sir

in this packet there are twenty six sorts of flower seeds such as I have got – I have been all round the river where the trees were planted several time since the flood subsided and I am just now come from there – the water it still too high for me to do anything to the trees – I find there are some of them carried off and a great many laid down flat on the water – the moment the water is low enough I shall earth them all up as before one day wet and the next dry keeps the river up such has been the weather in general – the pitts <sic> where the four trees stood that were carried off the rich earth has been washed out of them likewise, I am obliged to fill them a second time – I have kept two of the extra men this week as I had a good many jobs to do – one of these should the weather permit is to cart and spread the mud on the stew ground &c &c
