My dear Talbot

Your are very good to write & enquire after Horace,<2> we got home quite dry as the rain ceased before reaching Melksham,<3> the child was well wrapped up & slept very soundly all the way, This morning he [sic] quite well & no cold was caught – Pray thank Mrs Talbot<4> for also writing to me.

Notes:

1. Iford Manor, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, recently inherited from his father, Thomas Gaisford DD (1797-1855).

2. Lt Horace Charles Gaisford (1851-1879), WHFT's nephew. He was the only child of Henrietta Horatia Maria Gaisford, née Feilding (1810- 9 Aug 1851), WHFT's half-sister, who died shortly after giving birth to him.

3. The village in Wiltshire closest to Lacock.

4. Constance Talbot, née Mundy (30 Jan 1811 - 9 Sep 1880), m. WHFT 20 Dec 1832.
