23 May 1859
My dear Sir,
I have seen Mr Dundas today, who had already received a communication from Mr Bolton,
The latter in his letter did not allude to his correspondence with Mr Gibson, but I mentioned the subject to Mr Dundas who is of opinion that there was nothing unreasonable in Mr Gibson’s declining to agree to Mr Bolton’s proposal, and that the arrangements may be made in the way at first suggested. but he is to explain everything fully in his reply to Mr Bolton. – It is very disinterested in Mr Bolton to endeavour to lighten the Expenses of the Settlements, the whole of which I believe fall to my share. but I should prefer paying a little more perhaps than is absolutely necessary to having any delay or complication which can be avoided. –
As soon as I hear anything further on this subject, I shall let you know. –
I remain My dear Sir Yours most truly
