Thursday
Dear Grove
Having a great deal of writing to do this evening before I leave Town, I cannot accept your kind invitation to dinner – In your letter <1> you do not advert to the fact that the patent in question was taken by me long before either Your advice to me or my own experience – The question is, whether having taken it I shall support it or not –
It should seem that the answer to that question must depend on circumstances. Is it worth supporting or not? Is it a scientific curiosity or an important new manufacture? Upon these points you shall receive information
Believe me Yours very truly
