Whorlton.
Nov. 15. 1860.
My dear Sir,
I have just received Your letter with the cheque inclosed, for which allow me to return my best thanks. Let me also thank you for your kind congratulations on my approaching marriage: <1>
I have every hope that it will tend not only to my own happiness, but also add materially to the comfort of my household, & parish. I am very sorry that Charles is so remiss in writing – I have only heard once from him myself, but I have heard of his – I hope that he is entering with a little more interest into what goes on around him, but I do not imagine that he is reading much – You will probably be able to judge at Christmas, how he is going on – I fear that he will do not do, what he might have done, to have taken an honorable position in the College, but I do not think that there is anything more that can be done for him, than what has been – I sympathize very much with you & his mother, in the disappointment wh: this must occasion you.
Ross went up to Cambridge a few days after the time. & I have just heard that he has passed his examn wh: was in consequence delayed.
We are threatened with a return of cold & wet weather again.
Believe me Your’s very faithfully
Arthur W Headlam
