Dear Sir
I am sorry to have been unable to reply to your note of the 3rd earlier – having had much trouble and anxiety on account of my wife’s health which necessitated change of air &c – I returned last night and lose no time in assuring you that your contribution will be most welcome – and I have very little doubt that I shall be able to return you the letters <2> speedily
I remain Yours very truly
J. Herschel
