Dear Sir

I send the enclosed <1> not as being a very well chosen object, but as a specimen of fixation by Iodine. It does not change at all by daylight today, but in truth it is very cloudy weather which does not afford a sufficient test of the fixation. I have sent an account of your diminished pictures to the Literary Gazette <2> where you will find considerable vituperation of me by an artist of the name of Willmore. <3>

Yesterday I obtained some very interesting results, & I am in hopes they will lead to a new branch of the Art.

Yours most truly
H. F. Talbot

Notes:

1. No enclosure.

2. The Literary Gazette and Journal of belles lettres, science and art. See Doc. No: 03857.

3. James Tibbetts Willmore (1800–1863), artist.
