Sir –
May I request the favor of an explanation of the following Assyrian names at your earliest convenience?
Asshu-lush.
Bel-lush.
Iva-lush.
Bel-ip.
Bel-ipni.
Shamas-ipni.
I wrote a series of Papers in an educational Serial last year, on Scripture Names, including most of the Assyrian Babylonian, Egyptian, & Persian, &c., & intend shortly to have them reprinted, but would like to make them as accurate as possible, & add any new illustrations or analogies I may be able to get. – I presume that you are fully aware, many of the Foreign Names have hitherto been explained in Biblical Dictionaries, &c., erroneously, as if of Heb. origin. – I shall be very happy to forward for your acceptance the Nos of the Periodical containing the Papers previously alluded to, & glad to avail myself of any suggestions or corrections you may be kind enough to make. Hoping you will excuse the liberty I have taken of troubling you with this Note –
I am Sir, Yours, very respecty
William Greenwood Hird –
