Dear Sir

Mr Hunneman <1> informed me today he was going to send you a box tomorrow, therefore I had not time to look over my packet to see if it contained anything besides Ferns, but was obliged to dispatch it as it was – I have had these Ferns <2> some years, but from want of knowing their names they have been of little use to me. If any of them are figured in any of your publications I hope you will specify it.

I have just been looking at some drawings I had made by a Foreign Artist, of new plants which I discovered in the Ionian Islands – they are very well drawn, but he charged so high that I had only four of them executed, which I have named

Silene Cephallenica <3>
Silene integripetala
Delphinium Græcum
Pimpinella –

What do you advise me to do with them? It is a pity not to publish them somewhere, as the Flora Europæa <4> ought to claim precedence in the eyes of European botanists, tho’ in fact it is somewhat disregarded. I found some other new species there; one of them “Sideritis purpurea” is very distinct & pretty.

Believe me Yours very truly
H. F. Talbot
