My dear Sir

The Gardener Reid <1> has called upon me twice lately to ask me if I had heard further from you respecting the time when you would wish him to go to you. The situation where he was, when you enquired about him, was only a temporary one, which he kept until he was engaged to another: – & then he left it; – so that the young man has got nothing to do, which appears rather irksome to him. I could only tell him that I had not heard from you on the subject, but that I would let him know as soon as I did.

Believe me, my dear Sir, Most truly & faithfully Yours,
W. J. Hooker.

H. F. Talbot Esqre
31. Sackville street.
