Veranda.
March 22nd
Dear Sir,
I enclose an order for £6. 11. 2. which I am in your debt for sundry copies. I have prepared the coloured specimens which I wished to send, but as some of them had better be properly mounted before you see them, my friend Mr Montague Wilmot, who is going to London on next Saturday is kind enough to take charge of them.
I have blackened <1> some of the skies, and touched up other defective parts of those negatives which you sent me, i.e. those that were not waxed, but as yet I have not attempted the waxed ones as it is difficult to find any pigment which will adhere to them. With respect to the unwaxed copies I find it perfectly feasible to make almost any corrections and alterations that may be necessary, but this requires great delicacy of hand and eye.
I am anxious to hear how the preparations for the Regent stt affair <2> get on, if properly conducted, and if the portraits can be taken quickly I am always confident that it will answer well
Yours very truly
Calvert R. Jones
Notes:
1. Jones often painted out the sky in negatives with indian ink.
2. Probably 122 Regent Street, London: base of Nicolaas Hennemans' Talbotype or Sun Picture Rooms, later the firm of Henneman & Malone, photographers to the Queen.
