Sir,
Mr Varden <sic> having informed me that you would kindly apply your discovery of a new process in Photography to the representation of some peculiar fossils found in your immediate neighbourhood – I have ventured to send you two negative plates and positives from them for your consideration I am well aware that the Fossils were but clumsily arranged, and perhaps the Photographer had not sufficiently instructed me as to the sizes which should be submitted to the Camera at one time and therefore I fear the more <intricate?> forms have not been brought out so clearly as they ought to have been – and perhaps as the Colours of the Fossils somewhat vary sufficient attention has not been paid to the background.
If you should take an interest in this matter it would give me much pleasure to submit the original fossils to your inspection – they were considered to be very beautiful by the late Professor Forbes who took much interest in the discovery of them
I am Sir Your very Obedt Servt
John Kilvert
