Dear Henry
I have not lost a moment in writing to Ibbeston <1> on receiving your letter <2> & should have done so without waiting for it, had it not been for our conversation with Scrope, <3> who I am glad to find hath withdrawn
I have called his attention particularly to Gale – I do not know whether Humphrey’s <4> (of Ivy House) has a vote or not but as he has always professed himself personally as well as politically a friend of mine, my wishes might have some weight with him.
Yours Truly
Lansdowne
Cambridge looks ill – doubtfull at best – but in general our reports are good.Notes:
1. Probably a misspelling for ‘Ibbetson’.
2. Letter not located.
3. George Julius Duncombe Poulett Scrope (1797–1876), MP & scientist.
4. Robert Humphrys, of Ivy House, book club organiser.
