Dear Talbot

I enclose a letter I received from Walter Long, thinking that you might like to see it – an application had been made to me by him & others to carry the Wilts & Somerset rail way thro’ the Lords, & at all events to support it. I declined the former at all events, stating that I was not sufficiently convinced of its expediency & that I understood you & Lord Methuen were opposed to it, which [led?] to this explanation.

ever yours truly
Lansdowne

Be so good as to return Long’s letter –

[envelope:]
H. Fox Talbot Esq
