Dear Talbot

Many thanks for your police report, & very glad I am, that before having had time to condole with you on your loss, I can in the same breath congratulate you on the recovery. The policeman certainly seems to have been very wanting in that quality, which in a policeman is a virtue, suspicion of his neighbor.

It is after all more satisfactory to the neighborhood if not to you that the crime should have been that of an individual rather than of a gang –
