Dear Talbot

I wrote a few days ago to Feilding <2> & proposed that tho’ without much expectation of it with so long a journey impending, that they should all come here & see us before they go – If that however is out of the question, I trust your paying us a visit is not, as I hear you are not of this travelling party – Any time in October we should be most happy to see you if you will –

I think we bid fair to surpass Italy or Greece itself in climate this year, & British wanderers will lose at least one pretence for leaving home –

believe me Yrs most truly
Lansdowne

I am not certain whether the Feildings’ [sic] are gone or not –

Notes:

1. Bowood House, nr Calne, Wiltshire, 5 mi NE of Lacock: seat of the Marquess of Lansdowne.

2. Rear Admiral Charles Feilding (1780–1837), Royal Navy; WHFT’s step-father.
