My dear Henry

We are anxious to know how poor dear Constance bears the dreadfull shock <1> so entirely unexpected & what no preparation could have made otherwise than most afflicting - I hope you found your Baby <2> flourishing

We heard yesty of my Uncle Strangways <3> death from a return of the Water on his chest from which he suffered in the Autumn Harry <4> left town today

Notes:

1. Constance Talbot, née Mundy (1811–1880), WHFT’s wife. She had recently lost her mother Sarah Leaper Mundy, née Newton, who had died on 10 March.

2. Ela Theresa Talbot (1835–1893), WHFT’s 1st daughter.

3. The Hon Stephen Digby Strangways (1751–1836), brother of the 2nd Earl and therefore uncle to Lady Elizabeth. [See Doc. No: 03234].

4. Probably Henry Stephen Fox Strangways, 3rd Earl of Ilchester (1787–1858).
