29. Hill Street
June 24th. 1840
My dear Sir,
I had made my Arrangements to leave London tomorrow for Road Ashton with the Intention of being present at the County Meeting at Devizes on Friday but in consequence of the Irish Registration Bill being fixed for that Evening, and also the Notice of a Motion by Mr Thomas Duncombe Reflecting on the Magistrates of Wilts for their Treatment of the Chartist Prisoners I feel it a Duty to be in my Place in the House on that Night.
I beg to say that I concur most fully in the Object of the Meeting, and only Regret that it takes place at a time when it is out of my power to attend
I am dear Sir
Yrs Faithfully
Walter Long
