Dear Talbot,
Some days ago I had a letter from Empson, <1> in which he expressed great doubt whether he should have room in the next no. for an etymological article. He had been pressed, he said, to reserve a place for a paper of great public importance.
I expected to learn what his decision was yesterday when we met. We were to have dined together yesterday. But in the morning I received a few lines from him to say that his brother was dying, and that it was impossible for him to come to town. Under these circumstances some days may probably pass before I learn anything definitive. When I can give you information, I will not fail do to so.
Very truly yours
TB Macaulay
