Sir
As I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing you in Birmingham nor of hearing from you since the 22d of March <1> I feel desirous of hearing if it may yet be probable that you will be in this town soon as I should be happy to hear more from you on the subject of our correspondence – Since I wrote last I have tried many experiments with the Calotype process and have partially succeeded – my principal cause of failure appears to be in the quality of the paper none that I have had being sufficiently good in texture (the best is what I am now writing upon) I think that with little more practise and a few hints from an adept in the art I should soon manage the manipulation with tolerable certainty – As the season is rapidly advancing wherein only I may expect to make the pursuit worth following I am desirous of coming to some conclusion as to your terms and the best way of obtaining the necessary information If therefore you will oblige me with a line at your convenience I shall be most happy to give the subject my best attention
I am yours very respectfully
J. P. Marrian
