Funchal. Madiera.
December 15th 1855.
Dear Sir,
I am much obliged by your note which was forwarded to me here and I have now the pleasure of sending you through Mr Stevens a Box of Succulent Plants.
I will send you as soon as possible some Seeds.
The Plants at the bottom of the Box are from Gardens; and those at the top, separated from the others by Paper, are native Plants –
I have added a Root or two of the singular Fern Alia<n?>tum uniforme and a Plant of Pteris anguta. Owing to a continuance of wet and stormy weather I have been prevented from visiting the North of the Island where other species of Succulents are found which, together with some Bulbs, I will take an early opportunity of sending you free of additional charge.
Will you be so good as to pay to Mr Stevens £5 for the Plants and 5s/ – for the Box – He will also inform you what the Freight amounts to. Hoping the Plants will arrive in good order and meet with your approbation
I have the honor to be Dear Sir, Your’s faithfully
