W.H.F. Talbot Esqr. F.R.S.
Sir,
We are very anxious to complete the series of Portraits of Fellows of the Royal Society that we commenced last year, as we are so frequently applied to for a completion of the collection.<1>
Any appointment you may favor us with for the purpose will receive our best attention, and at the same time, we shall be glad if you will inspect those portraits already taken.<2>
Waiting the favor of a reply, we remain, Sir, Yours Respectfully
Mc.Lean & Haes
Notes:
1. The partnership of Thomas Miller McLean (b 1832) and Frank Haes (1833-1916) was dissolved in December 1864, to be succeeded by Thomas McLean & Co. Haes remained a photographer, was active in the Royal Photographic Society, and later became a collector of early photographica.
2. Sadly, there is no indication that WHFT ever sat for this portrait.
