Glasgow Augt 17
Dear Sir
Your note enclosing proofs of Title & Preface reached me this morng at this place. I have no observation to make on them except that I do not quite like the taste of the line of ye title English Etymologies – Perhaps it is by your desire – if not I wd suggest plain letters –
If you have no motive for desiring the immediate publication, I wd very strongly recommend you to delay the publication until Novr or Decr – The season is now broken up – the world is dispersed & there is danger of your book escaping from the press unnoticed at this dull time.
I keep back all my books – except serials & new editions until the winter & I strongly advise the same course with yours.
Advertising wd in a measure be thrown away at present. If however you have reasons for pressing forward I shall be in Town early in Septr – & meanwhile my cousin & assistant Mr Rold Cooke in Albemarle St will attend to your coilleg].
In Edinburgh I saw recently specimens of Kalotype finer than any Mr Hill had hitherto executed.
I remain Dear sir Yours very faithfully
John Murray
